The future of Unix can be found in the development of the 64-bit Unix
Operating System. SCO and HP are working on this "Next Generation"
of Unix which is targeted for the Intel IA-64 family of processors
  beginning with the Merced processor.

Our speaker will be discussing features and technical aspects of the
new 64-bit Unix Operating System and SCO's Gemini Project which are
presently under development. Gemini is the code name for SCO's next
major release of Unix (SVR5) which will merge the Unixware SVR4.2
  and ODT 5.x platforms.

Unigroup will be holding its September meeting at the Unix Expo this month,
and thus we will not be holding a meeting at our normal September meeting
location at Chase. Our November meeting will once again be held at Chase
  in downtown NYC.

In a long standing tradition, all of Unigroup's Expo Meetings are free
  and open to the public.

Location Info: The Javits conference rooms are located downstairs,
typically towards the southern end of the building. It is not uncommon
that user group meetings get moved around or must be postponed due to
conflicts with other scheduled meetings. If there are any location
changes, we will post a notice. If you arrive at the meeting room early,
please me patient until Unigroup Board Members have a chance to arrive
  and set things up. Thanks.

Please mark this meeting on your calendar and join us!
Please tell your friends about Unigroup!

2. UNIGROUP AT UNIX EXPO '97
   -------------------------

Unix Expo '97 is coming to NYC at the Javits Convention Center on
September 15-19th, 1997. This year, the overall show is entitled
IT FORUM '97 and the show includes Unix Expo, DB/Expo, Windows NT Expo
  and the I^2 Internet/Intranet Expositions.

Check out http://www.itforum.com for more details.

-- Unigroup will be exhibiting at IT FORUM Booth 2681 --

** WANTED Volunteers for the Unigroup booth at Unix Expo '97 **

Some of our regular volunteers have retired, so this is our need and
your chance. The booth provides an opportunity to meet with our more
active members, make show attendees aware of our existence and what we
have to offer, and to spread UNIX. Visitors will ask questions ranging
from, "What's UNIX?" to "Which UNIX (or shell or package) should I get?".
It may come to pass that a visitor will come in need of UNIX help.
Don't let a supplicant's need (or challenge!) go unmet. Volunteers
are permitted to get help, too.
o Instead of spending all your show time wandering around other booths,
spend some of it sitting and letting the show come to you.
o Volunteers earn a portion of the spoils usually obtained at these
    shows.
o Your business may allow you some time to help a not-for-profit
educational outfit and local institution (make discreet inquiries of
    your personnel personnel).

Contact Mike Smith, Unigroup's newsletter editor, via
uniboard@unigroup.org if you can help us out. Please reply ASAP!
